Tips For Removing Blood Stains from Clothing and Sheets

No one likes to find blood on their clothing or sheets, but it happens. Whether a nosebleed or a paper cut, accidents happen. Luckily, there are several ways to remove the stain without having to replace your items. Here are some tips and tricks for removing those pesky blood stains from your clothing and sheets.

Using Detergents or Soaps
The first step in removing the stain is to rinse the item with cold water before attempting any additional treatments and set it soak for 4-8 hours.. After rinsing with cold water, try using a detergent or soap specifically designed for use on fabrics. Rubbing the detergent into the fabric can help loosen up the blood particles that have been absorbed into the material. If possible, leave the detergent in place for at least 30 minutes before rinsing off thoroughly with cold water.

Using Hydrogen Peroxide
If you don’t have access to a detergent specifically designed for fabrics, hydrogen peroxide can also be used to remove blood stains from clothing and sheets. To start, pour a small amount of hydrogen peroxide directly onto the stain and allow it to soak in for 10-15 minutes. Once finished soaking, rinse off thoroughly with cold water before repeating if necessary until all of the stain has been removed. It’s important to note that hydrogen peroxide can cause fading in certain colored materials so it’s best to test it on an inconspicuous area first before applying directly to the stained area.

Using Salt Water
Salt water is another great option when trying to remove blood stains from clothing and sheets. Start by creating a saltwater solution by combining 1 teaspoon of salt with 1 cup (236 ml) of warm water in a bowl or bucket large enough for you to submerge your item into it fully. Once you’ve created your solution, submerge your item into it and make sure all areas covered by the stain are submerged as well. Allow your item to soak in this solution overnight before washing as normal with cold water in the morning. This method should help draw out any remaining stubborn bloodstains that were not removed during your initial treatments!

Removing blood stains from clothing and sheets doesn’t have to be daunting task! With these simple methods—detergents or soaps, hydrogen peroxide, or saltwater—you can easily remove those pesky stains quickly and effectively! Remember though, always test out any treatment on an inconspicuous area of fabric prior just in case it causes damage! Good luck!
